The full view.

The craft chocolate industry is based on principles of transparency and equity, sustainability and growth. As Makenu Chocolate developed from an idea to it’s brick and mortar location, we’ve stood on our mission and value base of ensuring we acknowledge, respect and honor the roots of where cacao comes from, the people who understand and farm it, and the potential it offers all those who interact with and enjoy it.

Uncommon Cacao has been a vital piece in Makenu’s journey, and they strive to ensure there is complete transparency at all points in their process, from farm to bean to bar maker. Please check their reports below.

The craft chocolate industry has grown at an exceptional rate over the past decade or so, with makers of all sizes and from all over the world connecting and developing processes, products, connections and ideas that are geared towards making the industry sustainable and open to customers while ensuring the farmers and their crops are paid at a rate that reflects more of what their role in the process is, vital and integral. Terroir

Think all things environment. Air quality, altitude, soil and mineral content, percentage of shade, and other crops in the area. These factors and more come together as the ground work in the development of the cacao bean. Makenu Chocolate’s OG bean line up comes to you from Belize, Columbia, and Dominican Republic and we hope to expand that line up further into Central and South America, Africa and Asia to explore these new terroirs with you!
